Finding a Hotel to Choosing an Airport Limousine Service: Travelling to NYC 101

October 1, 2010

Five Towns provides the best airport limousine service in NYC.

New York City is America’s biggest urban district and attracts millions of tourists every year. If you’ve never been to NYC before and don’t know any locals to show you around, you could end up spending more money than needed and actually missing a lot of great things about the city. If you are travelling to the city, follow these tips that cover everything from finding the right hotel to booking the best airport limousine service in NYC.

When to visit: Although NYC is great any time of year, the spring time may be the best time to visit, especially if you are a fan of the outdoors. Visiting Central Park in the spring time is a great experience because you will get to see nature come alive again after a long winter. However, the fall is also a great time to visit because it’s not too hot or cold and you’ll be able to see the colorful leaves change and fall. There are still many outdoor activities to experience in the fall as well. The winter (November-late January) is when the hotel prices are the cheapest. The city is beautiful during the holiday season, with decorations and lights illuminating the streets.

Where to stay: The closer you are to the center of Midtown and Times Square, the more expensive your hotel accommodations will be. You can find lower prices on hotel rooms on the outskirts of Manhattan, which is only a subway ride away from Midtown or anywhere else in the city. The average hotel price is about $250 a night, where centrally located hotels average about $400 or more per night. Stay at a cheaper hotel room but splurge on a luxurious airport limousine service to get you to your NYC hotel.

Getting around the city: There are plenty of transportation methods around the city. However, for a day of sightseeing in NYC, rent a limo to take you to all your destinations. It’s easier than hailing cabs and your driver will be able to function as a tour guide and make sure you see all the important spots while you’re visiting. You won’t get that experience taking a cab or subway.

What to do: There are tons of cheap things to do in the city. Look in the back of the pages of newspapers like the Village Voice or Time Out New York for daily listing on what’s happening around the city. There are also hundreds of art galleries (with free admission) throughout SoHo and Chelsea that showcase paintings, photography and sculptures.

Spend This Labor Day Out NY Sightseeing

September 3, 2010

While you're out NY sightseeing this Labor Day, make sure to stop by the Asian Feastival in Queens to eat food like this.

Labor Day may mean the end of summer, but instead of dwelling on this fact, why not get out this Monday and do some good old-fashioned NY sightseeing? Many people have the day off work on Labor Day and if you are one of them, it’s the perfect day to get out on the town. It’s going to be beautiful weather this weekend, so take advantage of the extra day off and have a limo chauffeur you around the city.

Although Labor Day is a U.S. Federal Holiday and schools, banks and post offices are closed, most restaurants, stores and attractions are still open. In fact, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the attractions that stays open on Labor Day as part of the special Met Holiday Mondays sponsored by Bloomberg. After you spend some time browsing the beautiful art works of the museum, why not stop by the Asian Feastival in Queens, happening this Monday 12:00pm-5:00pm. Enjoy 20 of the borough’s restaurants in one place so you can taste a variety of specialty dishes each has to offer.

Don’t feel like spending the day at the Met? Why not have your limo drop you off at the West Indian-American Day Carnival. On Labor Day from 12:00-6:00pm, you can join the expected two-million attendees to watch the parade, complete with dancers in glittery outfits strutting down Eastern Parkway.

After a fun day of NY sightseeing, ask a few friends out for dinner and have your limo driver take you to one of these trendy restaurants that just opened this week. Korzo Haus has Hungarian and Slovakian specialties alongside house-ground burgers. In the mood for something more casual? 4Food allows diners to order unique, customizable burgers with an iPad while a huge “media wall” streams Twitter and Foursquare check-ins.

Whether you’re watching a parade, experiencing new food or browsing a gallery, remember to think about what Labor Day is truly about, honoring all U.S. workers, as we have been every first Monday in September since 1884.

Take a Limo to One of These Must-See NYC Art Shows This Fall

August 27, 2010

Fall is coming, which means a new batch of must-see NYC art shows will be moving into the galleries. Get some friends together, grab a few bottles of wine and plan a fun, sophisticated night out on the town in NYC in a luxurious limo. Have the chauffeur take you to two or three of these shows suggested, by Time Out New York, and experience the beautiful artistic creations in style.

Gerhard Richter, “Lines Which Do Not Exist” at the Drawing Center will be opening on September 11, 2010 until November 18. Although the artist, Richter is known for his paintings, he’s also explored other art forms including drawing. This will be the first time in the U.S. that 50 of his works on paper are being gathered together in survey form. Enjoy the abstract compositions in graphite, watercolor and india ink as well as the interesting arrangements and displays.

“50 Years at Pace” at the Pace Gallery will open on September 17, 2010 until October 23. Enjoy modern and contemporary art that explores the Pace Gallery’s 50 years in business. Pipilotti Rist, “Heroes of Birth” at Luhring Augustine will open September 11, 2010 until October 23. Rist is a video artist but her work is definitely not limited to a movie screen. She’s transformed the floor into a work of art with her in-floor projection Selbstlos im Lavabad as well as turned Museum of Modern Art’s Marron Atrium into a brightly colored wonderland. Her latest exhibition includes video as well as other elements such as Rist-designed wallpaper and a chandelier made from a metal skeleton.

Think you can fit more than three art shows in one night? Or maybe you just want to see what other hot shows are opening soon. Before you rent your limo, check out this guide at NewYork.TimeOut.com in depth and decide for yourself which NYC shows sound the best.
